Fueled on faith, Dunkin’ iced coffee, and a love for people, including her amazing family, Kerry loves (in ever-changing order) books, boy bands, cats, hockey, sweet drinks, taking selfies, traveling, and the madness of getting the stories in her head onto the page. When did you know you wanted to become an author?I can't pinpoint a moment in time. When I was little I loved to write and loved making books! Simple ones, stapled together and fancier, plastic spiraled books at school. When did you first consider yourself a writer? When my Nana died. I was 3. I wrote her a letter and mailed it to Heaven! Who is your biggest inspiration? Years ago, I would have named a handful of people. Now, 6 years in, I'm inspired by the indie authors who stuck with it and are still writing. It's a hard business. How do you come up with your ideas? I observe people and am inspired by those who have made it through hard times and thrived. I also love to incorporate elements and emotions from stories I've personally loved. Are your characters inspired by or based on real-life people?A handful! With their permission, of course! There are some people I know and love that just have to be immortalized! What comes first, the plot or the characters?Usually the characters. Then they tell me their stories. What would you say is your most interesting writing quirk?I don't know if it's a quirk, but I revise at least a dozen times. I thrive on feedback and I always want to publish my best effort. How did publishing your first book change your writing career? It was a motivator. Once I did it, I wanted to do it again. And again and again and again! Have you ever gotten writer's block? How did you work through it?Yes! It helps to brainstorm with friends. Or ask your characters "why" over and over again until you peel back everything they're hiding from you. What are you working on now?A fun sweet hockey rom com! Sew Matcha in Love releases February 19th and is part of the Coffee Loft multi-author series. What advice would you give aspiring authors? So much! But most importantly, hire a professional cover designer and editor. What do you like to do when you're not writing?I'm homeschool mom of two teenagers. I mostly drive, haha! What are three things that are unique about you?1) I'm a connector. I love helping people find people and putting groups together.
2) I love people and want to hear their stories. 3) I put ketchup on my mac-n-cheese. Try it. It's delish!
